Harvesting the Tucson sun is something that researchers at the University of Arizona Tech Park are working on everyday.

The solar zone at the park has continued to expand, and the 222-acre site will be filled with panels by the end of the year. The Solar Zone is in the largest multi-technology solar evaluation site in the United States. With the potential that Tucson has with an abundance of sun, dry climate and clear skies Tucson could possibly be the leader in solar technology.

John Grabo, the director of business development for UA Tech Park said, "Solar energy is probably the most active of the renewable energy sources."

Nationally less than five percent of all energy consumption is renewable energy, and Pima County is about the same.

If more solar panels were used to harvest power less many would have to be spent on other forms like oil-based energy.

But the challenge for the researchers is to make solar energy less expensive so more consumers would be able to obtain its uses.
